Melting Polar Ice Caps Could Lead to Admiralty Law Mess

October 15th, 2007 · No Comments

We’ve all heard the stories and seen the documentaries regarding global warming, and many scientists have pointed to the melting of the polar ice caps that this is in fact happening.  However, one connection that has yet to be made is how this phenomenon will affect admiralty law.  A recent article published in the Seattle Times, however, touches on this issue.

When Coast Guard Adm. Thad W. Allen imagines a melting Arctic, it’s not a pretty sight: Cruise ships collide with icebergs. Oil tankers and ore ships run aground. Foreign fishermen sneak into American waters.

Even worse, the nation’s top Coast Guard officer fears he may not have the tools to respond to these future crises.”

This is a daunting possibility, and one that could change the way we view admiralty law.  If you have been injured at sea, contact an admiralty lawyer at Williams Kherkher to schedule a free initial consultation.  You can do so by calling us toll-free at (866) 950-9000.
