Officer to Blame for Accident

December 31st, 2007 · No Comments

An officer on board a cruise ship has been blamed in a federal report for an accident that sent hundreds of passengers to the hospital. The ship was leaving Port Canaveral in July of 2006 when the accident occurred.

The accident involved the ship listing severely to its port side. This was caused by an officer of the ship turning off auto-pilot and manually steering the ship. When he was steering, he apparently panicked. He knew he should have turned the ship’s wheel starboard to correct the error but instead turned it to port. This sent the entire ship into shock and caused 300 passengers to be injured when they went tumbling.

Of the 300 passengers that were injured in the event, 14 suffered serious injuries. 30 people have filed law suits against Princess Cruise Line for the pain and suffering they endured.
