Increase in Pirate Attacks

The number of pirate attacks worldwide increased 10%, from 239 in 2006 to 269 in 2007, in a reversal of the downward trend seen since 2003. The increase is mainly blamed on a rise in attacks off Nigeria and Somalia, according to the International Maritime Bureau.
