The body of Kevin Batten, a 19-year-old shipyard worker, was pulled out of the James River late last week after he fell from the USS Carl Vinson, a Nimitz-class Navy aircraft carrier Wednesday morning. Batten, who was employed by Northrop Grumman Corp. as a sheet-metal-worker, had only recently been accepted into the shipyard’s Apprentice School.
The shipyard ruled the fall and subsequent death accidental and said it would cooperate fully with an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
